Newsletter: As the weather changes…

Now that the weather has shifted to Autumn/Winter in Malta, I feel able to talk about the shifts in my life that summer brought about. It’s been 160 days since I last sent a newsletter, and a lot can happen in 160 days. I turned my social media momentarily private, and spent many days resting, engaging with a new job, facilitating some training sessions in Estonia, in Malta and online, on holidays, and thinking about my future in the Green movement. After a lot back and forth, the conclusion was clear: an hour I dedicate to the green movement goes much further if it’s dedicated to the local Greens, than to the European Greens.

My future in the European Greens I have been a committee member of the European Green Party for almost two and a half years, that’s one whole mandate that will end this December. After many conversations, including with some of you, I have decided not to re-contest the position.  Two and a half years is a long time, and I would not be heading into another three years with the enthusiasm I felt in 2022, but rather cynicism and frustration. The European Green movement deserves more than that from its leadership. I wish the many candidates running this December in Dublin the best of luck for their campaigns.
My future in the Maltese Greens I’m staying for now. I was elected to be the treasurer of the party in May and am committed to this role and delivering it with transparency, accountability, and strategy. My tasks looking ahead include fundraising to cover the costs of ADPD’s court case to win one seat in the Maltese Parliament, a case which started in 2022 and will next be in session in December of this year.  However I will not be contesting the next elections, the results of the last elections do not justify that. Depending on how things play out I will be behind the scenes, lending my experience of 4 nation-wide campaigns to other candidates.

The future of this newsletter I don’t expect the focus of this newsletter to change much, it will remain personal reflections from a life behind the scenes in politics – even if not on the European stage. I remain interested in European politics and foreign policy, the culture and arts, and transparency and authenticity in politics and leadership. You can expect all this and more in the upcoming mailings, roughly once a month from now on. Thank you for your support and your time,
